Martha’s Vineyard Fishing Village Street Black and White Photography
A Quiet Dirt Road Between Weathered Coastal Buildings
The dirt road narrows into the distance, passing a row of shingled buildings beneath overhead wires. I photographed this quiet fishing-village street on Martha’s Vineyard in 2009 during an early morning walk. The black and white image keeps the rough road, wooden walls and clouded sky close in tone, with light catching the nearest windows.
The building on the right gives the photograph its strongest foreground presence. Its shingles show a repeating texture, while the pale window frames break that surface into larger rectangles. Smaller huts continue down the road, growing less distinct as they recede. I like how the viewpoint lets the eye move along the lane rather than stopping at a single facade.
The details are practical and unpolished. Poles and wires follow the street, small objects sit beside the walls, and the ground remains uneven. Those elements give the scene its working-village character. In monochrome, they become part of the same composition instead of isolated distractions, with the sky adding a softer pattern above them.
For me, the photograph holds the stillness of that walk without needing an empty horizon or broad sea view. Its coastal identity is carried by the buildings and the way the street is used. As wall art, it can suit someone drawn to Martha’s Vineyard, New England villages or weathered architecture. The subdued tonal range offers a quiet image for a cottage or home, with a clear path through the frame and smaller details to explore.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
