Weathered Key West Yacht Stern Black and White Photography
Crowded Deck Details Above Rippling Florida Anchorage Water
I came across this unusual yacht while boating through the anchorages in Key West, Florida. Photographing it from a small motorboat gave me a low view toward the stern, where equipment, hanging fenders and deck fittings crowd together. A small boat sits alongside it, and a compact wind turbine rises above the upper structure.
I enjoy finding subjects like this among more familiar waterfront scenes. The vessel’s worn surfaces and improvised-looking arrangement make it stand apart from the small sailboats scattered across the background. From this angle, the stern is almost a stack of separate shapes: the hull below, a busy middle level and a shaded opening higher up. Each layer introduces a different set of lines.
The surrounding water keeps that concentration of detail from filling the whole image. Ripples catch the light in the foreground, while a dark reflection extends down beneath the boat. Farther back, slender masts rise against a low shoreline. Broad streaks of cloud cross the sky above, giving the scene a softer upper half.
Black and white brings the deck details and changing tones of the water together without competing colours. For someone drawn to unconventional boats and everyday maritime subjects, this photograph offers a closer look at a vessel with a very particular appearance. The print combines that crowded central subject with the open space of the anchorage I was travelling through.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
