Abandoned Florida Texaco Marina Black and White Waterfront Photography

Stained Fuel Tanks Behind Crooked Pilings and a Leaning Sign

I found this abandoned Texaco marina while sailing north along Florida’s Intracoastal Waterway. It was a discovery from the boat, rather than a location I had set out to photograph. In this 2009 image, the old fuel dock stretches across the foreground, with weathered tanks and dense trees behind it. The water provides a little distance from which to see the whole shoreline arrangement.

The tanks immediately held my attention. Their tall cylindrical forms rise above the grasses, with dark stains running down the pale surfaces. On the left, a leaning Texaco sign remains recognisable beside the dock. I like the way these commercial details sit among the vegetation, still distinct even as the surrounding plants fill much of the setting.

Black and white concentrates the view on texture and structure. Rough timbers, uneven pilings and rippled water form the lower band, while tree branches and the stained tanks give the upper area a different density. The dock provides a long horizontal line connecting the smaller sign to the larger equipment on the right.

Places like this interest me because their appearance can change before another visit. The photograph keeps what I saw as I passed: a neglected waterfront facility, its signs and equipment still visible within the shoreline. For a wall, I see its appeal in the combination of a Florida boating setting and the textures of abandonment. The scene offers several details to explore while holding together as a single view from the water.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
