Modern Oslo Building Photography From a Low Corner View

Repeating Balconies Rise Above Concrete Supports and Soft Clouds

The viewpoint was what made me stop. I photographed this modern building on Oslo’s waterfront looking almost straight upward from beneath it. In black and white, the corner rises into the square frame as a strong pointed shape, with balconies, windows and pale surfaces repeating on either side.

I wanted to get close enough for the building’s scale to become part of the composition. Concrete supports sit beneath the projecting corner, while the floors above seem to narrow as the eye climbs. The view leaves the street and waterfront outside the frame, concentrating instead on the structure immediately overhead.

The balcony rails give the facade a finer rhythm. Their narrow vertical lines contrast with the larger panels and window openings, while deeper shadows define the undersides of the projecting balconies on the right. I like how these different scales of detail remain readable within the simple overall outline.

Clouds provide a softer shape behind the building. They prevent the sky from becoming a flat background and make the sharp corner feel more pronounced. Monochrome keeps the light and shadow clear, with no colour to compete with the geometry.

Architecture interests me most when a viewpoint changes how I experience an ordinary structure. Here, a building becomes an arrangement of converging lines and repeated edges, still recognisable but more abstract than a view from across the street. It is that shift, from a practical place to a strong visual shape, that I wanted the photograph to hold.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
