Peggy’s Cove Harbour Buildings Black and White Photography
A Small Boat Before Weathered Docks and Coastal Houses
A small boat floats before the docks and buildings of Peggy’s Cove in this black and white harbour photograph. Ripples spread across the foreground, while weathered structures gather along the rocky shore beneath a broad, cloud-filled sky. I photographed the scene in 2014, looking at the village from across the water.
The boat gives the eye a simple starting point. Its pale upper edge and darker hull stand clearly against the fine pattern of the water. Behind it, the shore becomes more detailed: small docks, timber supports, roofs, utility poles, and houses form a varied line across the middle of the image.
I enjoy the contrast between those two parts of the harbour. The boat has a compact, easy-to-read shape, while the buildings overlap and invite closer examination. Neither needs to dominate the view. Together they establish the scale of the waterfront and its mix of open space and closely arranged structures.
The clouds add another layer, with darker masses above the village and lighter openings farther away. In monochrome, the sky, buildings, rock, and water share a common range of tones but retain their different textures. That is what holds the photograph together for me. As a Peggy’s Cove print, it offers a quiet harbour scene with plenty of visible detail, from the nearest ripples to the small roofs along the shore.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
