Wellington Inn Cotswolds Black and White Architectural Photography
Three Storeys of Stone Beneath a Heavy Clouded Sky
The Wellington Inn stands almost square to the camera, its name centred between rows of windows. I photographed the building in 2008, keeping the road in the foreground and a broad area of cloud above the roof. The pale stone façade gives the inn a clear presence, while the darker roof and doorway provide stronger points within its regular arrangement.
What interests me is the balance between the three-storey building and the sky. The windows repeat across the front, with a central entrance at ground level and small signs beside it. Low neighbouring roofs extend on either side. Above them, the clouds have much softer, less predictable shapes, giving the otherwise orderly view another kind of movement.
I like the details that keep the façade from becoming completely symmetrical. A climbing plant rises along the right-hand corner, an aerial appears above the left roofline and a pole runs upward near the centre. Planters and pavement signs sit close to the entrance. They remain part of the building as it appeared when I made the photograph, rather than being removed from the composition.
This Cotswolds architectural print would suit someone drawn to English inns and everyday town buildings. Black and white brings the stonework, window frames and cloudy sky into a shared range of tones. The photograph offers both the inn’s broad front and smaller street-level details, with enough surrounding space to keep its setting visible.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
