Stepped Glass Facades With Clouds Reflected in the Windows

The glass building steps across this Halifax photograph in a series of projecting corners. I photographed the PwC office building from below, including the stairs and trees at its base as well as the open sky above. The repeating window grid gives the view a clear structure, while reflections introduce shapes that are less regular.

Bright clouds appear across several of the darker glass sections. They are broken apart by the window divisions, then picked up again on a neighbouring surface. I like how those reflections make the facade more than a set of straight lines. The building remains angular, but the cloud shapes add a softer pattern within it.

A strong patch of light near the right edge contrasts with the darker central recesses. Black and white makes that change especially visible, moving from almost black windows to pale reflections. The upper rooflines rise and fall rather than forming one level edge, and the different faces catch different amounts of light. Each projection becomes easier to separate from the next.

The steps below provide another set of horizontal lines, with slim railings leading into the foreground. Small trees interrupt the geometry at ground level. I wanted to retain that base so the building would stay connected to its setting, even with the glass taking most of the attention. The result is an architectural view built around repeated forms, changing light and the sky reflected within the facade.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
