Dublin Sutcliffe House Passing Woman Black and White Street Photography
A Walking Figure Beneath Large Lettering and Graffiti Marked Windows
A woman walks past Sutcliffe House in Dublin, crossing the lower left of the photograph beneath its large sign. Her pale shoes and light hair stand out against the darker frontage. I photographed this street scene in 2019, drawn to the way a passing figure could sit within such a strongly structured view of a building.
The name across the top gives the facade an immediate identity. Below it, the doorway and two dark window openings establish a regular arrangement, while graffiti introduces a very different kind of line. I like the contrast between the formal lettering above and the loose marks spread across the lower wall and windows. Stonework, a dark base and the paving provide additional layers of texture.
The woman’s position keeps the image from becoming only an architectural study. Her step brings movement into a frame otherwise built around rectangles and horizontal bands. I find that balance interesting: the frontage supplies the structure, and the person passing through it gives the scene a particular moment. Black and white lets the light figure, dark windows and painted marks relate through tone.
This is the kind of street photograph I enjoy for its combination of people and ordinary urban surfaces. On a wall, it offers a specific Dublin setting with details that become clearer as you spend time with it. The sign is easy to recognise first, followed by the woman, the graffiti and the pattern of the street below. Together they hold a brief everyday scene within a compact composition.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
