Chicago Ferris Wheel at Night Wall Art
Golden Spokes and Red Gondolas Against a Black Sky
The wheel’s lights seem to draw its shape directly onto the night. Golden spokes radiate from a bright hub, and small red gondolas mark the outer rim of this Chicago Ferris-wheel photograph. I framed the view closely at Navy Pier in 2011, keeping the dark sky around the upper curve as an important part of the composition.
There is very little else to compete with the wheel. The black background makes the finer cross-bracing visible, turning the structure into an intricate pattern rather than a solid object. Some lines run directly out from the centre; others join them at different angles.
The gondolas introduce a repeated sequence of warmer red shapes around that framework. They are small enough to remain part of the overall curve, but distinct enough to give the rim a different rhythm from the spokes inside it.
I was captivated by the combination of light and open darkness. The wheel carries the visual energy of the evening, while the space above it gives the image a quieter balance. The close framing also leaves the structure continuing beyond the bottom edge, suggesting its size without showing the entire setting.
This print offers a Chicago night view with a strong graphic character. From a distance, the illuminated curve is immediately clear; up close, the overlapping lines reveal more of the wheel’s construction. It holds a familiar amusement-ride subject within a restrained arrangement of black, gold, and small red accents.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
