Curved Reflections Beside the City’s Straight Facades

Chicago’s Bean reflects illuminated buildings in a sweeping curve, while the same city architecture stands upright beside it. This black and white night photograph brings those two versions of the view together: ordered facades on the right, and their stretched, bending counterparts in the sculpture on the left. I was drawn to the meeting point where familiar buildings begin to change shape.

Only part of the Bean is included. Its rounded edge cuts through the frame, giving the reflection room to feel like a separate city within the city. Windows bend along the polished surface, and bright points of light gather near the lower curve. The surrounding darkness makes those small highlights more distinct.

On the right, rows of windows and the angled top of a building provide a steady comparison. The detail remains recognisable, but it takes on a different rhythm when mirrored in the sculpture. I kept both surfaces in the composition because the effect is more interesting when the viewer can move between the buildings themselves and their altered reflections.

The monochrome treatment lets shape, light, and repetition lead. It also connects the bright facade to the darker steel without introducing competing colours. For me, the photograph is a close study of how a landmark changes the way we look at its surroundings. As wall art, it brings a strong urban presence and an unusual architectural perspective, suited to a room where black and white city photography can hold attention through detail.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
