Prague Cityscape Black and White | Rooftops and Prague Castle
Layered Historic Rooftops Beneath the Prague Castle Skyline
Prague seems to unfold in layers from this viewpoint. Rooftops crowd against one another in the foreground, streets disappear between buildings, and the city gradually climbs toward Prague Castle on the distant ridge.
I made this photograph in 2014, looking across a dense section of the Czech capital where almost every part of the frame contains another architectural detail. Chimneys break through steep tiled roofs. Domes and ornate façades appear between simpler buildings. Farther back, the skyline rises above the city, giving the photograph a natural destination without overwhelming everything happening below.
Black and white felt particularly suited to this view. Without color separating the buildings, the shapes, rooflines, windows, masonry, and repeating patterns become much more apparent. The city turns into an intricate arrangement of light and dark, with hundreds of small details packed into a single scene.
What interested me was the density. There is very little empty space here. One building overlaps the next, then another, creating a visual record of a city that feels as though it has been assembled gradually rather than planned as one uniform whole. Even the cloudy sky seems to press downward, concentrating attention on the architecture.
From a distance Prague can be defined by its great landmarks. From this height, I was just as interested in everything between them—the ordinary rooftops, narrow streets, chimneys, and buildings that collectively give the city its character.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
