Chrome Tailfin Taillight And Cadillac Crest Detail
I photographed this 1959 Cadillac at close range, concentrating on the rear tailfin rather than trying to describe the entire car in a single frame. The result is a tightly composed black-and-white study of one of the most recognizable shapes in American automotive design. The polished circular taillight housing dominates the photograph, while the Cadillac crest and wreath sit slightly apart on the smooth rear body panel. This image belongs naturally with my classic car photography wall art, but its appeal reaches beyond automobile nostalgia into sculpture, industrial design, and mid-century style.
The composition is built around curves, diagonals, and reflected light. A broad chrome ring surrounds the turbine-like taillight, with narrow black fins radiating inward toward a pointed central cone. The reflective metal catches bright highlights, soft gray transitions, and fragmented reflections from the surrounding space. Behind it, the pale bodywork sweeps upward into the dramatic tailfin, while the lower edge narrows into a sharp, winglike point. The deep black background beneath the car gives these forms room to separate and makes the chrome appear even more dimensional.
I made this photograph on location, working close enough to study the surface rather than simply record the vehicle. Small marks in the chrome, subtle shifts in the painted panel, and the crisp geometry of the lens surround keep the Cadillac from feeling like an idealized showroom illustration. It remains a real vintage automobile with age, workmanship, and history visible in its materials. The separate crest also makes this a strong addition to my vintage car emblem photography, where manufacturer badges become visual subjects in their own right.
Black and white was the right treatment because color would have competed with the structure. Without it, the eye moves directly to the contrast between polished chrome, black recesses, light bodywork, and shadow. The photograph becomes almost abstract at first glance, yet the tailfin, crest, and circular rear light quickly identify the car as a 1959 Cadillac. That tension between abstraction and recognition is what gives the image its strength.
This limited edition print is particularly suited to a study, office, garage, den, showroom, or contemporary interior with clean lines and restrained tones. It will speak most directly to Cadillac collectors, classic car enthusiasts, automotive historians, and anyone drawn to 1950s American design. The square composition also gives the image a strong architectural presence without requiring a large wall.
Each limited edition print is personally signed and includes a certificate of authenticity. I produce the photograph with archival pigment inks on premium archival paper, preserving the fine tonal separation in the chrome, painted metal, emblem, and surrounding shadows.

This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
