Seoul Streetlight Beneath Garak Tower East Black and White Photography
Round Glass Lamps Against a Tower of Vertical Lines
I stopped beneath Garak Tower East in Seoul's Seocho District and tipped my camera upward. A streetlight stood directly in front of the building, its round glass lamps interrupting the long vertical lines of the facade. In black and white, that meeting of two very different shapes became the centre of the photograph.
The nearest globe appears large against the sky, while the other lamps step back around the textured post. Their curved surfaces catch the light softly. Behind them, narrow ribs climb toward the pointed corner of the tower, drawing the eye through the frame from the darker street level to the bright clouds above. A neighbouring building enters along the right edge and gives the rising tower another architectural shape to work against.
I wanted the lamp to remain an equal part of the scene. Its worn surface and small ornamental details have a weight that the glass facade doesn't share, and the low angle brings those details close. Looking up from the street let me put the building's height and that everyday fixture into the same view. The pale lamps hold their own against the dense stripes behind them, giving this Seoul photograph a clear focal point within its strong geometry.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
