Weathered Wooden Farmhouse Half Buried In Icelandic Turf Landscape
The first thing that caught my attention here was how the building seemed to grow out of the land rather than sit atop it. These old Icelandic farmhouses were often partially covered in turf to survive brutal winters, and over time, nature starts reclaiming them. What remains is a structure that feels half architecture, half landscape. From a distance, the wooden frame stands quietly against the rolling hills. Still, as I walked closer, the details began to reveal themselves — warped planks, open windows, collapsing edges, and the soft grass slowly overtaking the roofline.
In black and white, the scene becomes less about colour and more about texture and time. The grain of the weathered wood, the rough stone wall in the foreground, and the thick grasses pushing through every opening all work together to tell the story of a place that once held life and warmth. Above it all, the Icelandic sky moves in heavy layers of cloud, creating a moody atmosphere that feels perfectly suited to a landscape like this.
I photographed this while exploring rural Iceland, driving through quiet valleys where farms and villages appear suddenly and then disappear again into open wilderness. Finding structures like this always feels like stepping briefly into another era. You can imagine the families who once lived here, the storms they endured, and the quiet rhythm of life tied to the land.
The composition naturally pulled me toward the angled lines of the roof and the low stone wall that runs across the foreground. That wall anchors the image and leads the eye into the building itself, while the distant mountains quietly frame the background. The entire scene feels grounded and calm, almost suspended in time.
Images like this work especially well in interiors that favour texture, natural tones, and thoughtful design. The simplicity of black and white allows the structure and landscape to carry the visual weight without distraction. It fits beautifully in spaces that lean toward Scandinavian, rustic, or minimalist décor, where subtle detail becomes the focal point.
I personally sign each limited-edition print, and each includes a certificate of authenticity. The photograph is produced using archival pigment inks on museum-quality archival paper to ensure depth, detail, and longevity suitable for collectors.

This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Every print is personally produced, inspected, signed, numbered, and carefully packaged by me at my studio in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada.
Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.
Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.
Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
