Historic Turf House Nestled Beneath Towering Icelandic Cliff
This is one of those places that feels like it shouldn’t exist anymore, yet there it is—quiet, grounded, and completely untouched by time. The turf house sits low against the land, built from stone and earth, with a simple wooden frame peeking out just enough to remind you that people once lived here. Behind it, the rock rises sharply, almost aggressively, as if the entire structure is tucked into the landscape for protection.
What drew me in was the contrast—the weight of that cliff against something so human in scale. The textures are everywhere—layered rock, rough stone, weathered wood, and grass growing thick across the roof. There’s no clean line in this scene, nothing polished. It’s all worn down, shaped slowly by weather and time. In black and white, those details take over. Every crack, every edge, every shadow becomes part of the story.
I stood there for a while before even thinking about the shot. The air was still, the kind of silence you don’t get in many places anymore. This wasn’t something I came across by accident—it’s part of a region where history hasn’t been erased, just left to settle into the landscape. I photographed it on location, taking the time to work the composition so the structure and the cliff felt connected rather than competing.
The path leading in pulls you toward the doorway, but it’s the cliff that holds you there. It dominates the frame, but it doesn’t overpower the house. Instead, it frames it—anchors it. That balance is what makes the image work.
For a space, this piece carries weight. It’s not decorative in the usual sense—it has presence. It works in rooms where you want something grounded, something that feels real and rooted. Offices, living areas, even quiet reading spaces—it holds attention without needing to shout.
Each print is part of a limited edition of 10, personally signed by me and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. It’s produced using archival pigment inks on museum-grade materials to ensure the depth and detail in the image carry through over time.

Limited Edition of 10
This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.
Premium Archival Fine Art Prints
I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Every print is personally produced, inspected, signed, numbered, and carefully packaged by me at my studio in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada.
Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.
Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.
Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
