Gdansk Library Facade and Street Lamp Black and White Photography

Brick Windows and Stone Steps on Mariacka Street

A dark street lamp stands in front of tall library windows on Mariacka Street in Gdansk, Poland. I photographed this architectural detail in black and white, letting the lamp anchor a dense arrangement of brickwork, pale window frames, and raised stone entrances. The library sign adds a small, precise connection to the place.

The vertical composition gives the buildings height without losing the street below them. Cobblestones spread across the foreground, and a short staircase rises between two rounded stone finials. An arched cellar door sits lower on the left, while the larger doorway above it has a fan-shaped detail. Those curves interrupt the repeated rectangles of the windows.

I am particularly drawn to the contrast between the neighboring façades. Rough brick holds light differently from the smoother wall beside it, yet the similar windows bring them together. The lamp divides those surfaces without hiding their differences. Its narrow dark line remains clear from the patterned paving almost to the upper part of the frame.

The scene rewards looking at small relationships rather than searching for one grand landmark. A rail crosses a step; a sign projects from the wall; window grids repeat with slight changes around them. For someone interested in European architecture or library spaces, this photograph offers a close, layered view of the street. Its restrained tones can sit comfortably in a study or reading room where detail has time to be noticed.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
