Gdansk Ornate Storefronts Black and White Architectural Photography
Two Facades With Different Doors and Window Patterns
Walking through Gdansk, I kept finding architecture that rewarded a slower look. These adjoining storefronts caught my attention because they are similar without being symmetrical. Each has its own arrangement of windows, doorways, lettering and ornament. I photographed them straight on, allowing the two facades to become a close study of architectural detail.
On the left, the Gdanska Galeria Rzezby frontage has an elaborate central entrance, curved gallery lettering and a small figure above the door. Dark grilles cover the lower windows, while a more regular row sits above. The neighbouring facade has its entrance on the right, beside two tall windows with decorative surrounds. A street lamp stands between a window and doorway, adding a slender shape among the broader rectangles.
Black and white draws my attention to those relationships. The pale frontage on the left contrasts with the darker wall beside it, making the division between the buildings easy to follow. Window panes create small repeated forms within the larger openings, while curved ornament interrupts their straight lines. The paving along the bottom gives both buildings a common base.
I enjoy photographs in which a city can be recognised through its smaller architectural decisions. Here, the door surrounds, grilles, signs and window arrangements hold the view together. They offer enough detail for a close look while keeping the overall composition clear. Returning to the image, I notice how often a shape on one facade finds a different answer on the other.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
