British Columbia Fishing Fleet Black and White Wall Art

White Hulls and Dense Rigging Against a Forested Shore

Fishing boats sit close together, their white hulls bright beneath a dense arrangement of masts and rigging. I photographed this harbour scene in British Columbia in 2011, with the vessels filling most of the frame. The black-and-white treatment makes the contrast between the lighter boats and the darker forested shore especially clear.

The view has a great deal of detail, but the hulls give it an underlying order. Cabin windows, dark trim, registration numbers, and hanging fenders distinguish one boat from another. Above them, cables and upright supports overlap into a finer pattern. I find that shift in scale appealing: the broader boat shapes are easy to read, while the rigging asks for a closer look.

Water occupies the lower edge, carrying broken reflections of the vessels. Beyond the boats, the tree line forms a quieter band, with hills rising behind it beneath a clouded sky. Those background layers keep the fleet connected to its Canadian setting without taking attention away from the foreground.

What drew me to the scene was the combination of a resting fleet and all the visible equipment associated with its work. The boats are still, but their forms remain busy with small parts and repeated lines. This print offers a maritime photograph for someone who appreciates working vessels, fishing harbours, or monochrome coastal imagery. Its detailed composition can hold attention in a study or living space, with the brighter hulls providing a clear focal point among the overlapping structures.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
