Towering Hoodoo Formation Rising From Weathered Desert Rock
There are places in the desert where the landscape seems less like geology and more like sculpture. Standing in front of this formation, I remember feeling that exact sensation—the sense that the land had been patiently shaping itself for thousands of years, slowly carving out something both improbable and strangely balanced. The tall hoodoo rising from the sandstone plateau felt like a stone sentinel, a quiet monument formed by wind, water, and time.
The structure itself is remarkable. A narrow column of layered rock rises upward before widening into a heavy capstone that appears almost impossibly perched. Beneath it, the desert walls fold and bend into soft ridges and curves, revealing bands of sediment that tell the long history of the land. These lines and textures are what caught my attention first. In black and white, they become even more pronounced—each contour of rock turning into a study of form and shadow.
What makes this formation especially striking is its placement within the broader landscape. The surrounding cliffs echo the same layered patterns, but nothing quite mirrors the hoodoo's singular shape. It stands apart, both visually and physically, like the final surviving piece of a much larger structure that erosion slowly dismantled over time. Desert plants dot the sandy foreground, their sharp silhouettes contrasting against the smooth curves of stone.
Above it all, the sky adds its own drama. Heavy clouds rolled across the horizon the day I photographed this scene, creating shifting pockets of light and shadow across the canyon walls. That soft, diffused light brought out the detail in the rock surfaces without flattening them. The result is a scene where texture becomes the dominant language—weathered sandstone, layered geology, and the quiet weight of time.
I photographed this while exploring the American desert, walking through the landscape and studying how the formations interacted with the changing sky. Moments like this are why I spend so much time in remote places. You don’t just see the land—you feel its age, its stillness, and the slow patience that shaped it.
Each print is produced using archival pigment inks and is personally signed by me, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The image is printed with museum-quality materials to preserve the fine tonal range and intricate textures that define this desert scene.

This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Every print is personally produced, inspected, signed, numbered, and carefully packaged by me at my studio in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada.
Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.
Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.
Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
