Point Pelee Perched Hawk Black and White Spring Wildlife Photography
A Direct Gaze Above A Diagonal Woodland Branch
I noticed this perched hawk early one spring morning at Point Pelee National Park, Ontario. Its face was turned toward me, with both eyes clear above the hooked bill. I photographed the encounter in 2015, keeping the bird in focus while the surrounding branches became a softer framework behind it.
The hawk sits left of centre on a thick branch that slopes down toward the right. Its body is upright, with the tail hanging below the perch and the talons visible against the bark. Dark markings break up the pale chest, while the folded wing carries a denser pattern of feathers. I find that difference in texture especially absorbing in black and white. The face remains the immediate point of attention, but the feather detail gives the portrait more to discover on a closer look.
Other branches cross the background at different angles. Some have rough bark or small hanging clusters, yet their softer edges keep them from competing with the hawk. The pale spaces between them give the head and body room to stand out. My interest is in this particular meeting with a bird within its woodland setting, rather than assigning it a mood or a story beyond the photograph. As a print, the direct gaze and diagonal perch create a clear wildlife portrait, with enough surrounding detail to retain the character of an Ontario spring morning.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
