Ellis Island Hospital Door and Corridor Black and White Architectural Photography
Broken Glass and Repeating Doorframes Beyond a Worn Entrance
Through the partly open door, a long corridor recedes toward a brighter doorway in the distance. The heavy entrance around it provides a firm outer frame, while the damaged wooden door introduces an angled shape across the opening. I photographed this Ellis Island Hospital interior in 2019. The succession of spaces drew my attention: one threshold leading to another, with worn surfaces carrying the eye deeper into the building.
The glass in the door is broken into irregular edges. Behind it, another view of the corridor appears through the remaining pane and open space. Cracked paint follows the wood around the panel, and a dark round fitting sits near the edge. Above, two transom panes remain enclosed by layered trim. I like how the door’s damaged details sit within such a regular architectural outline, giving the entrance both structure and texture.
Inside, peeling walls and narrow openings repeat along the hallway. Light changes gradually as the corridor moves away from the foreground, separating the successive doorframes and making the depth easy to follow. The floor forms a simple path through those layers.
Black and white brings the rough outer wall, worn wood and stained plaster into a restrained range of tones. Their different surfaces remain distinct, while the rectangular forms bind the composition together. This photograph offers a close architectural view of an abandoned hospital interior, suited to someone drawn to weathered buildings, doorway studies and the quiet detail of historic places.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
