Rusting Farm Tractor Half Buried In Prairie Grass
There is something about the prairies that strips everything down to its essentials—sky, land, and whatever is left behind in between. This photograph captures a long-forgotten tractor sitting low in a sea of tall grass, slowly being reclaimed by the surrounding landscape. The machine itself feels almost swallowed, its metal surfaces worn and softened by time, while the steering wheel still rises above the horizon like a quiet reminder of what once was.
What drew me in was the contrast. The mechanical lines of the tractor—hard, deliberate, built with purpose—set against the soft, chaotic movement of prairie grass. The wind was moving through the field when I was there, pushing the blades in waves, brushing up against the rusted engine and fenders. It created this strange sense of life around something that had clearly been still for years, maybe decades.
Photographing it in black and white was the only choice that made sense. Colour would have distracted from what matters here—the textures, the corrosion, the subtle tonal shifts between sky and field. The clouds above stretch across the frame, adding just enough movement to balance the weight of the subject. It becomes less about a piece of machinery and more about time itself—how it moves, how it leaves things behind, how it quietly takes them back.
I came across this scene while exploring rural Saskatchewan, driving long stretches of open road where moments like this appear without warning. I stopped, walked into the field, and stood there for a while before even thinking about taking the shot. There is always a moment like that—when the place settles in, when you understand what you are looking at.
This piece works well in spaces that lean toward simplicity and texture—modern interiors, rustic settings, or anywhere that benefits from a grounded, quiet focal point. It carries weight without being loud, and it invites a second look the longer you spend with it.
Each limited edition print is personally signed and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Produced using archival pigment inks, the print holds onto every detail—from the fine grain of the metal to the layered depth of the grass—preserving the feeling of standing there in that field.

This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.
Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.
Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
