Two Birds Below A White Window And Dark Timber
Two birds stand beside a Romanian home beneath a white window filled with plants. I photographed this rural detail in 2011, keeping the dark horizontal timber and the small strip of grass within a vertical colour composition. The scene brings the house and its feathered visitors together without showing the whole building.
The contrast between the birds gives the lower part of the image its character. One is mostly white, with darker feathers near the neck; the other has a darker body, pale streaks, and a bright red comb. Their forms stand clearly against the light foundation wall, making them easy to notice even though they occupy a relatively small area of the frame.
Above them, the weathered boards create a broad, repeated pattern. The window interrupts it with pale trim and smaller divisions of glass. Pots, leaves, flowers, and patterned curtains add colour and fine detail behind the panes. I like the connection between those domestic touches above and the birds on the narrow path below.
The photograph’s appeal is in this modest arrangement of everyday life. There is no grand view or dramatic sky, only a section of a home and a moment beside it. I wanted the worn wood, window plants, and contrasting plumage to remain equally readable. For a kitchen or a room with a rustic character, the image offers a quiet rural scene with warmth, texture, and a little liveliness near the ground.
