White Fog Weaving Through Golden Haliburton Forests

From above, autumn in the Haliburton Highlands takes on a different scale. I photographed this Ontario forest during an early morning drone flight, with white fog winding between rolling ridges of orange and golden trees. The colour is rich, but the pale mist gives it room to breathe. Dark green patches break up the canopy, and the woodland appears and disappears beneath the drifting white bands.

I have explored this region many times, and I wanted to see familiar forests from a viewpoint that walking through them could never provide. What caught my attention was the way the fog divided the landscape without forming a hard boundary. In places it spread into a broad, almost blank area; elsewhere, thin wisps reached between the trees. I composed the photograph around those changes, allowing the dense autumn colour to meet the softer shapes of the mist across the frame.

My eye keeps moving between the individual treetops and the larger sweep of the woodland. The nearest colour has a textured, closely packed quality, while the more distant forest becomes a series of subdued layers. That shift is what gives this photograph its quiet depth. For someone drawn to Ontario landscapes or autumn forest photography, it offers the warmth of fall alongside the spacious feeling of looking down over a place partly hidden by morning fog. I like that the scene stays recognizable even as the mist simplifies it into colour, light, and gently overlapping forms.
