Warm Foliage and Hanging Moss Reflect Across Dark Water
Warm orange foliage glows above the dark water of Caddo Lake. A large cypress spreads its branches through the upper part of this colour photograph, with hanging moss catching the light beneath them. Its broad trunk stands partly illuminated against a deeper, shaded grove, and the warm tones continue into the rippled reflections below.
Early morning light gives the scene its contrast. It reaches the front tree and portions of the moss while leaving much of the background dark. I like how that selective light separates one set of branches from another, allowing the autumn colour to feel rich without making every part of the woodland equally bright.
The trunk is an important part of the view. Its flared base meets the water near the left, providing a solid form beneath the finer foliage. Above it, curved limbs reach outward, with small gaps showing through to the trees behind. Those lines give the mass of orange leaves a clear structure.
The reflection is less exact than the tree. Small ripples break the gold and brown into horizontal marks, stretching the light down through the lower frame. That softer pattern gives the water its own character rather than simply repeating what is above it.
I kept the framing close to this illuminated part of the grove. The photograph brings together autumn foliage, cypress bark, moss, and lake water in a warm woodland study with a dark, detailed background.
