Australian Railway Tracks in Black and White Geometric Photography
Parallel Rails and Switch Points Across Gravel Beds
The repeated rails are the subject here. Seen from an elevated position, several Australian railway lines cross the frame in closely spaced bands, with sleepers and gravel adding finer marks between them. I chose black and white to make that pattern clear, keeping the track layout rather than a passing train at the centre of the photograph.
The lines are nearly parallel, but the view is not completely uniform. In the middle, switch points and adjoining rails create a denser arrangement of metal. Some tracks sit farther apart, leaving broader strips of gravel; others are closely gathered. Those changes give the eye reasons to move through the picture rather than reading it as a simple repeated stripe.
I kept a low rail along the bottom edge and open ground near the top, providing boundaries for the busier centre. Small trackside details remain visible, but they do not compete with the stronger horizontal structure. The pale sleepers and dark rails create a steady contrast across the rough ballast.
Railway photographs often depend on a train, a station, or a view toward a vanishing point. This composition concentrates on the network underfoot and how it looks when viewed across its width. It offers a recognizably industrial scene with the clarity of a geometric study. I like the way the practical arrangement of the tracks produces an image that is orderly overall, yet full of small differences on closer examination.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
