Open Palms Reach Before a Curving Tower and Clouded Sky

Beneath Garak Tower East in Seoul’s Seocho district, I found a view where public sculpture and architecture seemed to reach upward together. This black and white photograph looks past enormous open hands toward the tower’s flowing facade. I worked from a low angle, letting the palms and forearms fill much of the frame.

The hands have a broad, reflective surface, with light tracing the fingers and the curves near the wrists. Their spread shapes contrast with the closely spaced vertical lines on the building behind them. I wanted both to remain clear: the familiar form of a hand, made unusually large, and the more abstract pattern of the tower.

A second building enters from the right, bringing a straighter grid of windows into the composition. Its edge leans inward in this upward view, making the sky feel enclosed between the structures. Clouds fill that remaining space and give the brighter fingers a softer background.

I took time shifting my position until the sculpture and tower felt balanced within the frame. From below, their scale becomes part of the experience, but the smaller surface details still matter. Monochrome connects the reflections on the hands with the light and dark bands of the architecture. The photograph holds what first made me stop here: a human shape and a modern building sharing the same upward direction, each with a different way of catching the light.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
