Indian Man With Long White Beard Black and White Portrait Photography
A Small Smile Beside An Open Textured Wall
His long white beard gives the portrait its most recognisable shape, but the eyes and small smile keep me looking. I photographed this older man in India in black and white, placing him to the left of the frame. A broad area of textured wall remains beside him, giving his face and pale hair room.
I like the slight tilt of his head and the irregular smile. He is aware of my camera, yet the expression remains particular to the encounter rather than becoming a formal pose. The hair sweeps across his forehead and outward at the sides, while the beard falls over the open collar of his shirt.
Those lighter surfaces create a clear outline around the deeper tones of his face. Individual beard hairs, fine facial lines and the plain shirt each respond differently to the light. A dark gate at the left introduces a firmer vertical edge, and the wall’s modest texture fills the rest of the background without competing.
I wanted the space beside him to be part of the portrait. It allows the face to remain concentrated within an otherwise quiet horizontal composition. The photograph depends on that balance between detailed human presence and simple surroundings. Its restrained tones give the smile, eyes and flowing beard a clear place to hold attention, leaving the man himself as the lasting impression.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
