St Bavos Church Haarlem Clock Tower Black and White Architectural Photography
An Illuminated Clock Above Tall Arched Windows and Sloping Roofs
The clock face catches the eye beneath the tall, finely detailed tower of St Bavo’s Church in Haarlem. Below it, a row of arched windows follows the diagonal line of the roof, bringing the building close to the edge of the frame. I photographed this view in 2024 after walking through the heart of the city.
I remember noticing the clock from farther down the street. It gave me a clear point of interest within a much larger structure, and I wanted the photograph to keep that relationship. The tower rises beyond the top of the composition, while the closer walls and roofs show how many smaller forms contribute to its presence.
Black and white emphasizes the changes between illuminated masonry and deep roof shadows. Narrow window divisions, projecting details and small pointed features create a dense pattern, but the open sky leaves space beside the tower. I like how the sloping lines carry the eye across the image before the upright tower pulls it back upward. The photograph is as much about that movement as it is about the church itself.
This vertical architectural image would suit a study, hallway or room with an interest in Dutch cities and church buildings. It offers a close view rather than a complete exterior, allowing the clock, window shapes and masonry to take the lead. The darker tones give those details a strong presence without adding colour to the room.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
