Spoleto Arched Wooden Door Black and White Architectural Photography
Twin Knockers Beneath a Fanlight in Weathered Plaster
I nearly walked past this doorway in Spoleto, Italy, before the worn wood and cracked plaster made me stop and look again. I stepped back to take in the whole entrance: two narrow wooden doors, a rounded stone arch and an iron fanlight above them. In black and white, the changes in surface become as interesting as the doorway itself.
The doors have a strong symmetry. Raised panels line up on either side of the centre, with a dark knocker on each leaf. Above, the fanlight spreads outward in a pattern of thin bars. I like how that small burst of geometry continues the curve of the arch without simply repeating its solid stone shape.
Around the entrance, the wall is much less orderly. Fine cracks run through the pale plaster, darker patches show near the base, and the stone surround has its own mottled texture. A planted pot stands at the lower left, with another small planter higher on the wall. The number 92 gives the view a specific point along the street.
Doors have become a recurring subject in my walks because there is so much to notice within a modest frame. This one gave me both a carefully arranged entrance and the uneven marks of its surroundings. I wanted to keep those together, allowing the pale wall to hold the darker wood and ironwork while the textures remain visible from top to bottom.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
