Westminster Bridge Sticker-Covered Sign in Black and White
London Lettering Surrounded by Layers of Street Stickers
Westminster Bridge’s name is still readable through the stickers, but the sign has become much more than a neat piece of lettering. This black and white London photograph places that layered street detail against a weathered stone wall. Bold capitals provide a familiar landmark reference within a crowded patchwork of small images and words.
Standing in front of it, I felt the familiar buzz of city life. Even a simple sign carried traces of many people passing through. I wanted to photograph that everyday accumulation rather than the wider bridge view, giving something easily overlooked a place at the centre of the image.
The sign’s long rectangular shape gives all the overlapping details a firm boundary. Within it, stickers interrupt the spaces between letters and gather around the edges. Some are sharply readable; others are partly covered. I find that uneven layering more interesting than a perfectly clean surface because it gives the eye several routes through the photograph.
Black and white draws the lettering, sticker shapes, and rough wall into the same tonal language. Bright scraps stand out against darker areas, while the stone brings a quieter texture around them.
For me, the photograph holds a particular side of London: a recognisable name altered by the small marks of everyday use. It is an urban detail with both a clear subject and plenty to discover on a closer look.
