Weathered Indiana Farmhouse Black and White Photography
An Old Front Porch Beneath a Grey Country Sky
The front porch still gives the house a welcoming shape, even as its surfaces show their age. I photographed this weathered farmhouse in rural Indiana in 2007, choosing black and white to concentrate on the rooflines, pale siding and darker openings. The building stands in grass beneath a grey sky, with a large tree framing one side.
The house offers several distinct lines for the eye to follow. Two gables rise above the lower porch roof, slender supports run across the front, and a row of windows extends along the side. Small decorative details remain under the eaves. I like the way those careful features sit alongside the more obvious signs of wear.
Monochrome brings the different textures into a shared tonal range. The grass softens the foreground, the shingles break the roof into smaller marks, and the windows hold deeper shadows against the lighter walls. Without colour competing for attention, the building’s shape and condition become the centre of the photograph.
Standing before it, I wanted to preserve the farmhouse as I encountered it. I do not know the lives once lived inside, but the remaining porch and windows leave space for a viewer to reflect on them. As wall art, it can appeal to someone drawn to rural America, older houses or quiet architectural photography. Its black and white palette offers an understated view of the countryside, with enough detail to hold attention beyond the first glance.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
