Former St Marys Paper mill in Sault Ste Marie | Wall Art
The Pulp Tower at the old St. Marys Paper mill site in Sault Ste. Marie has been named a historic place in danger.
The industrial building, over a century old, made the National Trust for Canada's annual list of the Top 10 Endangered Places, highlighting neglected historic places.
The Pulp Tower was one of five sandstone industrial buildings built in the Richardsonian Romanesque style in 1897. When Francis Clergue started the Sault Ste Marie Pulp and Paper Company in 1895, he made the tower part of a large factory complex.
The mill stopped making paper in 2010, and the site was torn down starting in 2012. However, the remaining sandstone buildings are still impressive reminders of the Sault's industrial past.
