As I stood on the peak of the Purcell Mountain range in British Columbia, my heart pounded with the exhilaration of the breathtaking sight before me. I had journeyed by helicopter, landing on various peaks to find this unique vantage point. With the sun dipping beyond the rugged skyline, a spectacular display unfurled in the heavens above. An orange glow painted the sky, while a hint of magenta reflected off the snowy caps of the mountains. As with all of my photographs, this image is a faithful representation of what I experienced in that moment. The colors you see have not been fabricated but enhanced to convey my memory of the scene accurately.  Nature is beautiful.

The Purcell Mountains, a subrange of the Columbia Mountains in southeastern British Columbia, Canada, are known for their majestic and rugged landscape. On the west side of the Rocky Mountain Trench, these mountains are home to Panorama Ski Resort and Kicking Horse Resort, adjacent to the Columbia Valley towns of Invermere and Golden. The Purcells are a striking mix of high peaks and deep valleys, with most elevations near or above 10,000 feet.

The region holds a rich history, being the homeland of the Ktunaxa people. The Palliser Expedition explored the area in the mid-19th century, and Dr. James Hector named the mountains after Dr. Goodwin Purcell. European settlements emerged during the gold rush and the discovery of lead and zinc mines. The Canadian Pacific Railway's branch line construction through the Crowsnest Pass further developed the area, leading to the growth of communities like Cranbrook and Creston, known for their saw and pulp mills and agricultural significance.
