A pack animal crosses behind him, its blanket and body forming a strong horizontal shape against his upright figure. In black and white, those surfaces become more important than color; the photograph depends on tonal separation, weathered materials, and the contrast between his face and the darker clothing around it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe composition is deliberately direct. He stands almost square to the camera, close to the center of the frame, while the animal, road, buildings, and mountain slopes build outward around him.
