A man steps through a narrow, heavily weathered doorway carrying a cardboard box in his hands. He looks directly toward me, one leg still inside the building, caught somewhere between arriving and leaving.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat first held my attention was the doorway itself. Layers of cracked paint, worn decorative woodwork, damaged plaster, rough stone, and dark interior shadow surround the man almost like a frame built into the building. The architecture carries years of use on its surface. Nothing is polished or restored, and that physical wear gives the photograph much of its character. This kind of relationship between people and their surroundings is what continues to draw me toward \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/street-photography-wall-art\" title=\"black and white street photography\"\u003eblack and white street photography\u003c\/a\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe man becomes the visual anchor, but I don't see this simply as a portrait. His striped shirt, the box balanced across his hands, his relaxed stance, and his direct expression all belong to the larger scene. The deteriorating Havana building tells another part of the story. I wanted enough of the exterior wall in the composition to establish that relationship rather than isolating him from the place where I found him.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBlack and white removes the distraction of competing colors and emphasizes what interested me most: texture, expression, form, and contrast. The pale exterior surfaces sit against the deep darkness of the doorway, while the repeated rectangular blocks in the wall echo the panels of the old wooden entrance. Small irregularities become important—the peeling surfaces, exposed edges, hanging vegetation, and marks accumulated across the facade.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs wall art, I see this photograph fitting collectors drawn to documentary photography, Cuba, street scenes, weathered architecture, and images that reveal something about everyday human environments rather than idealized travel destinations. It has a strong vertical structure and enough fine architectural detail to reward viewing at a larger scale.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI offer this photograph as a limited edition of only 10 prints. Each print is personally signed by me and includes a certificate of authenticity.
