Butedale abandoned buildings on British Columbia Inter Passage. The image with a limited, or black and white, color pallet shows three large buildings in ruin. The dock at the shore of the British Columbia waterway will be functional, with a couple of boats pulled up on the shoreline. The picture is taken in the early morning with fog still in the background, engulfing the forest of tall trees behind the decapitated houses.

Butedale Salmon Cannery Princess Royal Island

Butedale is an abandoned salmon cannery located along the British Columbia Inside Passage on the northeast side of Princess Royal Island. Butedale is very isolated, and the abandoned structures are falling into ruin.

Butedale was established in 1918 by Western Packers. Butedale, at the time, was the northernmost salmon cannery in British Columbia. At its peak, the town of Butedale had a population of over 400 but since the closure of the cannery in the 1950s the village has become a ghost town, and now all that remains are dilapidated buildings and a wharf in disrepair.

Another one of these images that I shot because I love old and/or abandoned buildings. Not sure if anyone else has an interest in the image or topic. But like so many others, I posted it on Instagram, and it ends up becoming one of my most popular posts. Just proves the old adage; shoot what you like!

All images are original and have been taken by Dan Kosmayer.
