Wupatki Indian Ruins

Wukoki Pueblo Ancient Ruins at sunset
The Wupatki National Monument is where you will find numerous ruins scattered throughout the desert landscape, located in north-central Arizona near Flagstaff. One impressive ruin at the Wupatki National Monument is the Wukoki Pueblo, an ancient Pueblo ruin. The old building is a classic example of early pueblo construction. The Wukoki old ruin built on an elevated hilltop overlooks the Colorado Plateau's vast stretches. The location is several miles away from the nearest water source, concluding that the dwelling's location was chosen with security in mind. An observer on top of the towers could have seen someone coming many miles away.
This centuries-old Wukoki ruin was photographed just after sunset. The desert brush in the foreground and ancient dwelling in the background create a moody feel. Instead of looking at a typical snapshot of ruin, I wanted to create a mood where the viewer could imagine ancient Pueblo Indians inhabiting the buildings.
