Wall of China through mountains
As can be seen in this photograph, the Great Wall of China is a massive defensive barrier to protect the southern states. The wall stretched over 21,000 kilometers through rugged mountainous terrain. This image illustrates the difficulty of building this military defensive wall as it zig-zags through the China mountains as far as the eye can see. Nevertheless, this is a great picture that allows the viewer to mentally visualize the Great Wall's enormity. But, you might ask yourself, was it worth it?
How effective was the Great Wall of China?
Despite the foreboding scale of the wall of china, the wall only prevented a small group of nomadic tribes from entering. Moreover, the wall was breached on several occasions during large-scale invasions. Even though the Great Wall did not prevent hostile invaders from entering China, it was a great symbol of the Chinese people's strength.
