Tibetan woman portrait
Weathered face of a fascinating woman in Tibet
We were on a bus driving to the Buddhist settlement of Larung Gar lies between the rolling hills of the Larung Gar Valley in China. On the roadside, we spotted a fascinating woman and her son—natives of the Northern Tibetan region of China. We pulled over and spent some time chatting with her with the help of a friend of mine that spoke Tibetan (the official language of the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China).
Her portrait tells a thousand stories. The weathered and worn look on her face reveals an account of the harsh mountainous region of Tibet. The daily hardships of living in its hills and valleys take a toll on one's psyche and body.
