I love the character of this Cuban building. I shot this right at the peak of a gorgeous sunset, which bathes the building in a warm, beautiful glow.
An old, dilapidated building with a coastal view
You can imagine this marvelous building one hundred years ago. The large bay windows where residents step onto the balcony and have incredible views of the Havana, Cuba harbor. The architecturally ornate columns, window features, and roof tressels were (at one time) incredible. If you look at this building, you might laugh as it's currently in complete disrepair. You might even wonder if it is safe to live in. I can't deny the condition, but the character attracts me. The fact that people are living in these apartments, or some could be abandoned. You can see the clothing handing from two of the upper apartments in the building. The glass in the windows no longer exists and is boarded up with what looks like cupboard doors.
The man bicycling past the building adds that extra element for a great street travel photograph. What is the man carrying over his shoulder?
What you see in this picture is a level of architectural detail that once existed but has virtually disappeared everywhere. I hope the Cuban government restores this building to its former glory one day.
