Larung Gar China Buddhist Settlement
Tibetan Monk Housing
The Tibetan Buddhist settlement of Larung Gar lies between the rolling hills of the Larung Gar Valley in China. This is a perfect example of great urban landscape photography. This small village of Buddist monks and nuns is breathtaking. It features thousands of tiny wooden houses packed in close together on the edge of steep hillsides, as this photograph shows. The red wooden huts are built firmly together and look like a red sea across the hilly terrain.
The small red homes are probably better described as huts and surround the Larung Gar Buddhist Academy. The Larung Gar Buddhist Academy is the world's largest Buddhist settlement. The Buddist settlement is nestled in Sertar, China, and sits on elevations of 12,500 feet. The religious and devoted monks endure harsh conditions in pursuit of their studies in this remote region of China.
