Architectural detail of the Romanian Athenaeum
Romanian Athenaeum cultural building
This travel photograph features the front facade of the famous Romanian Athenaeum cultural building. The building is located in Bucharest, which is the capital of Romania. While taking a stroll through the center of Bucharest, the Romanian capital, there is one building that I had to stop and admire. The Romanian Athenaeum (Ateneul Român) symbolizes Romania's national culture and is a remarkable historical architectural masterpiece building. French architect Albert Galleron designed the neoclassical circular structure in the late 1800s. The building is dominated by a large dome and has a temple's appearance, with numerous large columns similar to buildings a traveler would find in Athens, Greece. Today the Romanian Athenaeum is a musical center concert hall that can seat almost 800. Classical music concerts play and are home to the local George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra.
