Northern Gannet Trio: A Wildlife Encounter on Bonaventure Island, Gaspé Peninsula
My adventure to the Gaspé Peninsula gifted me a meeting with one of Canada's largest seabirds, the Northern Gannet. I was privileged to capture them in their natural habitat on Bonaventure Island, a yearly haven for over 60,000 breeding pairs. Their impressive wingspan stretches to 1.80m, a sight that speaks of grace and power. The island, nestled close to the Quebec mainland, is easily reachable by a brief boat ride, offering a unique journey into wildlife's raw, captivating beauty.
In this photograph, a trio of Gannets commands attention. Two of them meet the lens with a direct stare, while the third bird seems eager to voice its thoughts about the intrusion of the third bird onto its nest. The eyes of the birds, the epicenter of this action scene, are sharply in focus, breathing life into the image. I opted for a distance from the nesting grounds, respectful of the park-designated areas. A 600mm lens brought me closer, presenting an intimate perspective of this untouched wildlife scene.
