A solitary home sits low on the horizon, accompanied by only a few small structures, while open land stretches across the frame beneath an enormous sky.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThat imbalance of scale is what interested me. The house occupies only a tiny portion of the photograph. Everything else is distance, scrubland and clouds. Rather than moving closer, I deliberately allowed the landscape to overwhelm the human presence within it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBlack and white strengthened that relationship. Without colour, the scene becomes quieter and more elemental. The pale ground, dark vegetation and small geometric buildings sit beneath layer after layer of clouds, some soft and distant, others heavy enough to dominate the upper half of the image.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eArizona is often photographed through dramatic rock formations and intense desert colour, but this scene offered something very different.
