Boys on bicycle Derry Northern Ireland

Boy with bicycle standing in the Bogside area

The Bogside area of Derry, Northern Ireland, is full of history and hardship. Right, where the boy is standing was the massacre on 30 January 1972, when British soldiers shot 26 civilians during a protest march against internment without trial.

The young boy is standing against his bike and texting on his mobile phone. Next to him, adjacent to the sidewalk, are two brick pillars with the words IRA spray-painted on them. As a stark reminder that the events of that fateful day almost 50 years ago are not forgotten. An exciting place to visit in the Derry area is the new Sunday Bloody Sunday museum. I found it well worth the visit and immerse yourself into some recent Irish history.

The photograph shows a boy standing along an iron fence holding his bicycle.  The apartment building behind him has two brick pillars with the words IRA painted on them.
